Can you use a lighter stain with polyur. over top already dark stained furniture to end with glossy finish.?
I have stained a piece of furniture with early american stain which is a med. color brown. I have no lacquer to finish with. I do have a lighter color stain with polyurethane will this do the same as lacquer and not change the color it already has?
It should not change the color at all but just in case, try it ina inconspicuous area like underneath the item.
If the underside is not stained with the med brown, stain it and then try the lighter.
Adjusting the Powis Parker Fastback S41 Edge Splitter Advance Settings
Most glossy coated papers perform well using the Fastback S41 Edge Splitter's default settings. However, some papers may require different preparation settings. The splitter has a range of adjustments that you can use to maximize its effectiveness. To access the menu press either scroll button the machine. You can toggle through the menu selections using the scroll buttons, and make selections with the green Start button. The Fastback S41 has settings for Depth, Rate, Pass Mode, Jogging and Compression. This article will explain these different settings to help you better understand how to adjust your Powis edge splitter.
Option #1: Depth
This controls the depth of the channel that is created when you split your paper. Harder paper stock may require deeper settings than normal. Softer paper stocks may require lighter settings. When setting the depth it is important to remember that using a split that is too deep can be detrimental to the paper and can cause binding problems. It is always best to use the lightest split possible. You can choose from three settings for depth including: light depth, normal depth and heavy depth.
Option #2: Rate
Rate controls how many times the splitter teeth strike the paper during each pass. The thickness of the paper is the determining factor in setting the rate. Thicker paper may require a coarser setting, while very thin paper should use a fine rate setting. Attempting to use a coarse rate when a fine rate is recommended can result in unsplit pages and may interfere with the bind quality. You can choose between three different rates for this setting including: coarse rate, normal rate and fine rate.
Option #3: Pass Mode
Pass mode controls how many times the splitter teeth travel across the paper edge during operation. Difficult to bind papers typically require two passes, while papers that are less problematic may require one pass. However, using the one pass mode when the normal two pass mode is recommended may interfere with the bind quality since your pages may not be completely split. You can choose either the light mode (1 pass) or normal mode (2 pass) for this option.
Option #4: Jogging
The jogging menu lets you choose whether the jogging feature is always on, always off, or in the normal pre-jog mode. Under the Normal Pre-Jog setting, the jogging shuts off as soon as the green button is pressed, allowing the paper to stabilize prior to clamping. Applying light pressure to the top of the paper during the jogging and when you press the green button to keep the sheets from bouncing before they are clamped. You can choose from three different settings for the Jogging option: Jog Off, Normal Pre-Jog or Jog On.
Option #5: Compression
The compression setting controls the compression of the paper after it is split. The normal setting compresses all books over ¼" thick. You can either turn this feature off, or turn it on for all book blocks. However, turning compression off may interfere with bind quality, especially for books greater than ¼" thick. You can choose from three different compression settings on the edge splitter: Compress Off, Normal Compress or Compress All.
