English Estate

Do I need permission from the estate of the playwright to translate a famous play?
I am translating a famous modern play into English. The playwright is deceased for about 20 years. Do I need to get some kind of special permission from her estate to translate, or produce, or maybe publish the work I translated?
You can search the Catalog at:
http://www.copyright.gov/records/
and maybe find ownership information for that work
If it is a foreign work (since you referred to translation), it may be covered by laws of that nation, even if it is not covered under US copyright
