Lighter Camel

Painting ideas for a new home...Any suggestions?
This home's exterior is verty autumn-like. Honey brown roof, medium colored brick with very extensive landscaping (brickpaver driveway and walkway, and lots of greenery, purple perrineals and all sorts of plants I don't even know what the names are). The style of the home is split level with all sorts of angles on the first floor, a loft upstairs overlooking the living room, and it has cathedral ceilings. I am clueless as to what colors to use to compliment the exterior, as well as how to paint the area with the various levels. Should the first floor be one color and the top be a complimentary darker or lighter shade? I assume we keep the ceiling white? The bedroom on the first floor has a very pretty ivory and yellowish-camel colored border that I actually really like so I want that room to be done in those colors. The carpet is just a cream color. Should we color it?
HELP!
Oh Oh Oh, I would not touch the carpets if they are in good condition, once you've decided on colors for the rooms then you should buy area and throw rugs. I love home redecorating can't wait til I move! Though I can never afford new furniture I can every few years so I try to pick out neutral colors for that or a solid color that I can mix and match. Now what I am none to do around income tax return time is go out and buy new rugs and accessories to add a new touch. I think accessories matter more than furniture they can make drab furniture look fab. So what I think you should do is make a list of what rooms are most important and start picking out accessories that you can't live without. take it one room at a time. Wait 1st pick out your main accessory and then build around it. For instance I fell in love with these two African portraits I found and a really pretty area rug that I found for a deal at Wally world. Luckily some of the colors were the same, so from those two I built my accessory colors for my living room around them. From there my mom and I decided on one color out of the carpet and painted the largest wall in the living room that color. For my two lil girls room I fell in love with these yellow curtains with bright color flowers in them. From there I choose a solid color for there comforters and area rug. From there on I took them and let them each pick out two pictures that they liked. I put a white dresser and bookshelf in their room. Since my dining room ran into my living room I tried to stay with the same colors just a different theme. But you get my point don't you. Find those must haves first and build around them. Take your time and do one maybe two rooms at a time so you won't get overwhelmed. Good luck and have fun! The inside of your home does not have to reflect the outside unless you really want it to. But I think then it would be boring and you would get tired of it really quick.
