When did the United States start to enter the Vietnam War?
Did the United States start to get their men to fight in the Vietnam war in the 60s or 70s?
Why did they decide to enter that war?
On 2 August 1964, the destroyer USS Maddox, while sailing in the waters of the Tonkin, was attacked by three Communist patrol boats, two managed to launch torpedoes, but missing the target, it launched the third one that does not explode and was later sunk.
On receipt of the report of this "incident" Johnson responded.
Direct TV announced that the North Vietnamese aggression would not be left unpunished, and ordered retaliatory air strikes against enemy coastal targets.
On 6 August 1964 the U.S. Congress approved the "Resolution of the Gulf of Tonkin", with which it authorized the President to take all necessary measures to repel the attacks against U.S. forces.
