Cigarette Wholesale

American English?
I am a UK writer and have a book being published in the US in 2008.
there are a number of words / terms we use in the UK which I wish to check if they can be understood in the US.
1) vacuum a carpet - this means using a vacuum cleaner (Hoover) to clean a carpet [in this case vacuum is used as a verb]
2) Lamppost – this is the post that holds up a street light
3) Match – a device used to light cigarettes
4) Butcher - a retail or wholesale dealer in meat
Yes, all those terms are understood in American English.
